Les "Régates Royales" qui, chaque dernière semaine de Septembre, constituent le "point d'orgue" de la saison, réunissant en baie de Cannes plus de 150 yachts parmi les plus beaux du Monde, de 10 à 50 mètres.

Une semaine durant, ces splendeurs, souvent centenaires, s'affrontent en joutes acharnées mais toujours empreintes de "fair play".

Naviguant au ras des plages et des jetées, elles offrent un spectacle d'une rare beauté que des centaines de spectateurs, venus des quatre coins de l'Europe, dégustent voluptueusement.

Fondée il y a plus de 2 000 ans par les Romains (Londinum), Londres était la ville la plus peuplée du monde au 19 ème Siècle , et le Royaume-Uni était le plus vaste empire du globe.En nombre d'habitants, Londres est aujourd'hui largement dépassée parde nombreuses mégapoles mais, de par son rayonnement, elle reste une métropole de tout premier plan.Centre politique, siège du Commonwealth, Londres dispose d'unepuissance économique considérable, due notamment à son statut depremier centre financier mondial.
Le Grands Londres compte 7 512 400 habitants, appelés Londoniens. Il réalise 19 % du PIB du Royaume-Uni La conurbation abrite 8 278 251 habitants. Selon différents critères on peut évaluer la population de "l''aire métropolitaine, sa zone d'influence directe, à 12 ou 14 millions d'habitants. En Europe, seules les agglomérations de Moscou, Paris et Istanbul ont un poids démographique comparable.

Rotterdam est une ville portuaire néerlandaise de 588 576 habitants (environ 1 100 000 dans l'agglomération). Son agglomération fait partie de la conurbation de la Randstad Holland (7 100 000 habitants entre Amsterdam - Haarlem - La Haye - Dordrecht - Utrecht).

Rotterdam est la seconde ville des Pays-Bas après Amsterdam. Elle représente le cœur industriel des Pays-Bas, car jouissant d'une position géographique stratégique, à l'embouchure du Rhin et de la Meuse et proche de la Manche/Mer du Nord et de son détroit du Pas de Calais, elle est ainsi le débouché économique de toute l'Allemagne de l'ouest, la région la plus dynamique d'Europe.

Son activité est donc principalement maritime, elle possède des infrastructures portuaires sur près de 30 kilomètres.

La capacité et la modernité de celles-ci lui permettent le quasi monopole des arrivées d'hydrocarbures en Europe (Rotterdam et le Havre sont les seuls ports de la côte atlantique à pouvoir accueillir des super tankers pouvant transporter jusqu'à 400 000 tonnes de pétrole) et elle est aussi un point important pour les matières premières et les conteneurs.

Cet ensemble lui a permis de s'affirmer comme le troisième port mondial (et le premier port européen), malgré la concurrence croissante de Shanghai et Singapour qui l'ont largement dépassé pour le transbordement de conteneurs.

Le port est néanmoins vulnérable à la montée des océans et à d'éventuelles ruptures de digues de polders. Il fait pour cette raison l'objet d'études prospectives approfondies et d'un nouveau Plan Delta dit « Deltawerken 2 » (le premier ayant fait suite aux inondations des années 1950).

Les insectes (Insecta) forment la classe des hexapodes, elle-même incluse dans un des sous-embranchements des arthropodes, les mandibulates. Les insectes ne se retrouvent que dans les terres émergées. On ne connaît pas d'insectes marins, bien que quelques espèces puissent vivre en eau douce. On les trouve sous presque tous les climats, du plus chaud au plus froid. Les scientifiques ont décrit près de un million d'espèces (soit environ les deux tiers des espèces animales connues), et il pourrait en exister 30 millions.

Leur corps est composé de trois parties : tête, thorax et abdomen. Ils ont six pattes, quatre ailes et deux antennes. Cette description est une généralité, l'évolution ayant fait que par spécialisation, certains éléments peuvent être atrophiés. On remarquera ainsi que les araignées ne sont pas des insectes mais des arachnides.

The study of insects is called entomology, from the Greek έντομον, also meaning "cut into sections".

Insects are arthropods, having a hard exoskeleton, a three-part body (head, thorax, and abdomen), three pairs of jointed legs, compound eyes, and two antennae. The head holds large compound eyes, antenna (feelers), and the mouthpart. The legs (and wings, if applicable) are attached to the thorax. On most insects, the abdomen is not an outstanding feature composed of 11 segments. On grasshoppers, there is a large round disc on the first segment next to the thorax. It is called a tympanum and is the grasshopper's ear. And on each abdominal segment, there is a small breathing hole called the thoracic spiracle.

Insects are the most diverse group of animals on the planet. There are approximately 2,200 species of praying mantis, 5,000 dragonfly, 20,000 grasshopper, 82,000 true bug, 120,000 fly, 110,000 bee, wasp, ant and sawfly, 170,000 butterfly and moth, and 360,000 beetle species described to date. Estimates of the total number of current species, including those not yet known to science, range from two million to fifty million, with newer studies favouring a lower figure of about six to ten million.With over a million described species—more than half of all known living organisms—insects potentially represent over 90% of the differing life forms on the planet. They are most diverse at the equator and their diversity declines toward the poles. Insects may be found in nearly all environments on the planet, although only a small number of species occur in the oceans, a habitat dominated by another arthropod group, the crustaceans.

Adult modern insects range in size from a 0.139 mm (0.00547 in) fairyfly (Dicopomorpha echmepterygis) to a 56.7-centimetre (22.3 in) long stick insect (Phobaeticus chani).The heaviest documented present-day insect was 70 g (2½ oz) Giant Weta, though the Goliath beetles Goliathus goliatus, Goliathus regius and Cerambycid beetles such as Titanus giganteus hold the title for some of the largest species in general. No one is certain which species is truly the heaviest. The largest insect in history was and is still believed to be the ancient dragonfly Meganeura.
